Trout Fishing

By |June 9th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

TROUT Fishing on the Ausable has been very good recently, nymphing during the day or chasing hatches for some dry fly fun towards evening have been productive. The streams of central NY are fishing good as well and the Salmon River received  a small stocking of some Browns that have been fun to catch especially on trout spey rods. SALMON & STEELHEAD September thru early December dates are almost all gone if you haven't booked yours, don't wait.  Call, Text or Email.  518-495-2965 Paul

Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River has been very good this fall, good numbers of fish and multi year classes from 4lb fish to fish in the mid teens.  Some of the fish up river are starting to settle into winter holding water, but lower in the river there are plenty of fish moving up river in transitional holding water.   I will be teaming up with the Douglaston Salmon Run  running another "Winter Special", look for that coming out soon.  You can e-mail me for details now if you want to get in on it sooner. Echo Flyfishing is coming out with some new spey rods for 2019 check them out at Echo Flyfishing.  I'm looking forward to adding a few of these to my arsenal for 2019.

Winter Steelhead

By |December 13th, 2017|Categories: Reports, Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

Winter is in full effect right now on the Salmon River.   The lake effect snow and single digits at night means slush will start being a factor. Here are a few tips to help you be successful. No need to start at first light.  Usually the bite doesn't start til the sun hits the water and the air temp rises. Fish slow and deep especially in higher flows. Fish flies you have confidence in. Concentrate on the guts and tail-out of pools. Dress appropriately, wear layers  and it help to be in a drift boat with heaters.

Steelhead Report

By |November 10th, 2016|Categories: Reports|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

It’s hard to believe its early November already, where did the fall go? Everyone has steelhead fishing and hunting season on the brain, including myself; I’m looking forward to spending time in the woods with friends and family starting next Saturday.  Fishing on the Salmon River is back to real steelhead fishing, very humbling for most guys; you have to work hard for every fish, covering lots of water effectively, changing flies often, and thinking out of the box on the heavy pressured water to find a couple each day.  So get out there and enjoy yourself and time on the water with friends. - Paul

Salmon Season

By |August 11th, 2015|Categories: Reports, Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Salmon season is just around the corner. Hopefully we should see a good run based on statistics and hope mother nature is in our favor this fall. A good source was fishing in the Douglaston Salmon Run Sunday and saw a few salmon moving thru. Could we have another year with a early run? If you haven't booked your dates now is the time, I have only a few days open but I have a couple of other guides working for me that may have it open. Paul
