The Fall salmon run is well underway now. It started off good but the weather was too summer like this past week and slowed things down. Hopefully more Fall like weather will return soon because steelhead will hopefully start showing up once the water cools down. Who's ready to catch some steelhead?? Water Flow: 1780 cfs and dropping Water Temp: 50-55 Hatches: BWO's, Hendrickson's, Stoneflies. Fishing on the West Branch of the Ausable is comparable to early spring conditions. Concentrate on close to the bank in the pocket water with bigger nymphs ( Pats' Rubber Leg, Mop's and hotspot attractor patterns. Streamers tied on jig hooks with tungsten bead jigged and stripped have been working well in the deep soft water. I have limited dates available in June (I'm taking a fishing vacation to Montana at the end of the month ;-) ) and early July. If you haven't booked your dates for the Fall on the Salmon River, don't wait I have very few open dates thru early December, below is what I have open. September 14,15. October 26,27. Steelhead fishing on the Salmon River has been very good this fall, good numbers of fish and multi year classes from 4lb fish to fish in the mid teens. Some of the fish up river are starting to settle into winter holding water, but lower in the river there are plenty of fish moving up river in transitional holding water. I will be teaming up with the Douglaston Salmon Run running another "Winter Special", look for that coming out soon. You can e-mail me for details now if you want to get in on it sooner. Echo Flyfishing is coming out with some new spey rods for 2019 check them out at Echo Flyfishing. I'm looking forward to adding a few of these to my arsenal for 2019.

Steelhead are here now! The lower end of the Salmon River is fishing really well for steelhead as they migrate up the river to feed on salmon eggs. Seems this years run is bigger and kicking butt!

The West Branch of the Ausable has been fishing pretty good recently. Water flows are dropping to summer time lows, water temps are mid 50's-60 still. Tight line nymphing has been the most productive technique by far, getting down and dirty with nymphs has produced some incredible client days along with some quality fish. Best patterns nymphing have been: Frenchie, Pat's Rubber Leg Stone, Sexy Walts worm and a Rainbow Warrior in sizes 8 to 16. Looking to book a trip, contact us here.
