Trout Fishing

By |June 9th, 2020|Categories: Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

TROUT Fishing on the Ausable has been very good recently, nymphing during the day or chasing hatches for some dry fly fun towards evening have been productive. The streams of central NY are fishing good as well and the Salmon River received  a small stocking of some Browns that have been fun to catch especially on trout spey rods. SALMON & STEELHEAD September thru early December dates are almost all gone if you haven't booked yours, don't wait.  Call, Text or Email.  518-495-2965 Paul

Salmon Season

By |September 23rd, 2015|Categories: Reports|Tags: , , , , , |

The Salmon run on the Salmon River is off to a slower start then what everyone had hoped for this fall. So far we have not seen a big run, everyday its a steady trickle to small pods coming thru the Douglaston Salmon Run section of the river.  As you can see by Jay's smile it only takes a few in the net to make it all worth it. Still looking for last minute dates?? I only have the Friday October 2nd open due to a cancellation for Salmon. I do have a couple of other guides with a few dates left, don't wait to get in this years run. For the latest reports and pictures make to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Salmon Season

By |August 11th, 2015|Categories: Reports, Uncategorized|Tags: , , , , , , , |

Salmon season is just around the corner. Hopefully we should see a good run based on statistics and hope mother nature is in our favor this fall. A good source was fishing in the Douglaston Salmon Run Sunday and saw a few salmon moving thru. Could we have another year with a early run? If you haven't booked your dates now is the time, I have only a few days open but I have a couple of other guides working for me that may have it open. Paul

This Season Is A Wrap!

By |May 12th, 2014|Categories: Reports|Tags: , , , , , , , , , |

This season is a wrap and what a great season it was. The Salmon run started out early in August and was incredible all the way thru October with some really big kings! Steelhead season started off with a bang too and continued right thru the fall. Those early fish in the DSR made for some great takes for my clients swinging flies. Winter fishing was good if you wanted to do battle with Old Man Winter - Me, I must be getting older, I can't take those really cold days anymore. With the long winter came a extended spring season and as I type this there is still plenty of fish to be caught in the river. We saw some insane numbers come to the net and anyway you wanted to catch them. To top it all off I had Great clients/Friends, so what more could a guide ask for!! Looking forward to seeing everyone this coming season! Just think Salmon Season is only 3 1/2 months away!!! Tight Lines, Paul

Big Water

By |April 14th, 2014|Categories: Reports|Tags: , , , |

High water on all tribs continues as daytime temperatures continue to be in the mid 70's for Monday. The runoff will slow down a little Tuesday night as the the night time low is going to be in the low 20's, but then back to spring like the rest of the week. Brown trout fishing on the lake has been really good along the Lake Ontario shoreline. I have May 4 open as well as May 10th for Steelhead trips. Give me a call 315-298-3949 or click here to book a trip.

My buddy and I are fly anglers; we have been coming to the Salmon River for the past five years, and we’ve had awful luck.  On year two, we booked a guide, and had a terrible experience.  We did not get the person we thought we were booking with; camped out the entire day in the upper fly zone, and hammered the same run all day.  So, we were skeptical when we decided to give a guide another try.  After doing some research, I gave Paul a call, and after getting off the phone, I was optimistic that this was going to be a much better experience.  I’m happy to say it was, and that Paul is a superb guide. We fished with Paul on November 22, 2013.  He is a friendly, relaxed, and professional fishing guide. His knowledge of fly fishing for steelhead, and of the river, is incredibly impressive.  His gear, flies, and equipment are all excellent.  He brought along some switch rods that were strung up Skagit style, showed us some spey techniques, and we played around with them for a bit, which was fun; Paul is also an expert spey fisherman.  However, what struck me most was how hard Paul works; he is absolutely determined to get you into fish.  After five years of steelhead despair, we finally got it done.  This would not have been possible without Paul, and I would not hesitate to use him again, or to recommend him to anybody making a trip up to the Salmon River.
