Spey Fishing

spey
I specializing in two handed spey fishing for steelhead on the Salmon River.  I have been an instructor at the Orvis Spey Casting School in the Gaspe, Quebec.  I have been spey casting for Atlantic Salmon in Quebec and Steelhead in the Great Lake tributaries since the mid 90’s.

My speciality is swinging flies, this fishing style can provide some amazing grabs from aggressive fish.  As the season progresses and the water cools, we will begin to fish heavier sink-tips and larger flies below the surface.  Our winter steelhead fishing mostly consists of fishing skagit style fly lines with heavy sink-tips and big flies.  This fishing is not for the faint of heart as some of the grabs are pretty explosive.

Spey rods not only make steelhead fishing much more enjoyable, but a heck of a lot easier.  Not only can you cast further with ease but the two handed rod makes mending a breeze!  Part of my love of fishing the two handed rod is teaching others to cast and fish them as well.  If you have not experienced steelhead fishing with a spey rod, I suggest you give it a try. The Tug is the Drug!
